A pair of great horned owls
converse with each other in the boreal forest of Alaska's interior near
Delta Junction. The photographer has observed these owls communicating
with each other using a series of grunts, shrieks and hoots. When one owl
would fly away it could be heard grunting to give his location to his
mate. At times these owls show almost human facial gestures and sometimes
show their closeness to their mate by brushing up close and snuggling with
each other. The photographer observed this pair over a period of four
months beginning in late February until they had babies in early May.

On a recent
hunting trip to Mentasta Lake I was skirting the perimeter of the
lake when I noticed this otter doing the same. Much to my delight
he climbed up onto a log protruding up through the surface of the
lake and sat there and looked directly at me allowing me to take
several images of him, this being my favorite. A good
link
to further learn about river otters.

This image
portrays the true personality of an Alaskan raven. Though not given a great
deal of credit at times, I have found these birds to be extremely intelligent.
Try pointing a camera at one of these creatures and watch how quickly they
scatter.
